SUPPORTING BASOTHO CHILDREN THROUGH LOCALLY DEFINED PROJECTS
HAESO is a volunteer led nonprofit focused on supporting the health, education, and wellbeing of children in Lesotho. We work with trusted school and community representatives to identify practical needs and direct donor support responsibly.
Your generosity supports HAESO’s mission to improve the health, education, safety, and well being of children and school communities in Lesotho. Donations are unrestricted, allowing HAESO to direct funds responsibly to the programs, projects, and operating needs where they can make the greatest difference.
HEALTH AND WELLNESS SUPPORT
Winter clothing, new shoes, more nutritious meals, classroom heaters, water access during droughts, cleaning supplies, etc.
EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT

SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT

HAESO supports the health, education, safety, and wellbeing of children in Lesotho by addressing practical needs within their schools and communities that affect their ability to learn and thrive.
We work directly with local school leaders and community representatives to identify priorities and determine how support can be delivered most effectively. This may include winter clothing, more nutritious meals, school fee support, learning materials, classroom equipment, facility improvements, hygiene projects, water access, and other locally identified needs.
When a project creates ongoing costs or maintenance needs, we work with the community to make a realistic plan for managing them. HAESO also reviews costs, tracks spending, and requires receipts and project reporting so donor support is used responsibly.
Health and Education Support Organization (HAESO) is a Michigan-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on supporting the health, education, and wellbeing of children in Lesotho. HAESO was founded by former Peace Corps Volunteers with firsthand experience living and working in Basotho communities and an understanding of the challenges local schools and students face.
Through their service, they built deep relationships with the children, families, teachers, and schools they served. They saw firsthand the strength, kindness, and resilience of Basotho communities, but they also saw the daily challenges many students had to overcome just to learn, grow, and stay well.
For many children, education is not only about the classroom. It is also affected by whether a child has warm clothing in the winter, enough food, school materials, safe learning spaces, support with school costs, and access to basic needs that many others may take for granted.
HAESO was formed to help meet those needs in a practical and responsible way. By working with trusted local schools and community contacts, HAESO connects donor support to real needs that affect children’s current wellbeing and their path toward a successful future.
At its heart, HAESO is built on relationship, trust, and the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and feel supported.
HAESO is a newly formed nonprofit currently preparing for our first school-based support project in Lesotho.
We are setting up initial projects by working with trusted local contacts in multiple locations to identify the most immediate needs, confirm project details, and develop clear plans for using donations responsibly and effectively. Our first year efforts are expected to focus on practical support for children and school communities, such as classroom heaters, winter clothing, learning needs, and other essential school-based assistance.
As we build our foundation, every donation helps move HAESO closer to a reliable path for long-term support in Lesotho.
In Sesotho, Haeso means “my home.” To us, it reflects the deep connection we formed with Lesotho and the responsibility we feel to support the children, schools, and communities who welcomed us as part of their own.
